A blind friend asked me to look at his non-working 2950.
This is an older model, with the orange display and memory battery.

There is a short in the radio. When connected to a power supply, the PS goes into overload protection, even with the radio off. A quick look of the board did not reveal any obvious problems.

Any suggestions what to look for?

Also, the battery is not there, the leads have beeen snipped.
What is the spec on the battery, and where can they be had?

Thanks for any suggestions.

Reverse polarity diode? D105.

Why is your power supply not blowing the fuse you have in line with the radio? You are running a fuse aren't you? You may want to address that issue first.

The battery would no have any leads on it. It was soldered directly to the UPS circuit board. Someone may have installed a battery holder for a pair of "AA" or "AAA" batteries and then removed it. The memory battery can be 3 volts, but I think the main spec is about 3.3 or 3.5.
