I have several Texas Star 250's Undertaker, great little amps. When I run my Delta Force on SSB I dial the power back to 8-10 watts and that is enough to drive the TS250 to it's peak output. You can drive more into it but the law of diminishing returns kicks in. For the handful of more watts you get the amp gets hot fast.
On AM I run the dead key at about 1.5 watts give or take 1/2 a watt and whatever the radio peaks at, like 14-20 watts. I try to keep the amps dead key in the 40-60 watt range.
As with most amplifiers many people have a false assumption that if it has HD stamped on it you can dead key 6-10 watts into it and drive 30-40 watts peak. All that does with a Texas Star is burn up the variable pot, knock the keying transistor out, and shorten the life of the very expensive finals.
