2970 dx carrier balance

how do you adjust the carrier balance on this radio..for ssb..

Moleculo..didnt realy see what i was hunting for there..whats going on is when i turn the mic gain on the radio all the way off and key the mic im showing about a half watt of carrier whilst in ssb mode..from what i understand there should be 0 watts on a deadkey on ssb....

You need to start with the PLL/Oscillator Alignment procedure. That will likely solve it. If it doensn't, you probalby have a diode going bad or one with a bad solder joint around the balanced modulator. I haven't personally dealt with this problem on that radio, but this is a place to start.

Yes, and you must do each step in the order listed. Should solve 90% of any misguided attempts from prior tune-ups.
