2nd battery in grand cherokee

I have a stock alternator in my 94' jeep grand, guessing around 100 amps or so. Looked EVERYWHERE to find the output but still can't, even checked the manufactors website with no luck. On to the question, can or should i put another battery in the rear of my jeep to allow me to run a bigger amp??? I have access to 3 or 4 BIG batteries. (a friend works maintence on delivery trucks) I have 4 guage running from the front battery to a distrubation block in the rear of the jeep. From the distrubation block one feed goes up to the radio and the other to the amp. Could i run the 4 guage (which is hooked to the front battery) to the battery in the rear, and the negative post to a GOOD ground???

Would this allow me to run a bigger amp w/o upgrading my alternator?

Thanks for everyone's time

439,

With a 100 amp alternator you're still going to be limited to certain amp.s that will not pull more than the alt. can supply. The batterys will help some but not in supplying any extra amperage. That,at any rate,is how it was once explained to me.

Okay DownSouth, Hawk here and you couldn`t have found a better guynie (cant spell GINNY) pig than me. I own a 92 Cherokee w/a 4.0ltr in line 6 and have gone thru it all. I bought a 200amp alternator(Mean Green Inc.) and ran #4 from the alt to the front battery. Then ran #4 from front battery to the rear battery right behind the back fold down bench seat, #4 ground from battery to rear seat bolt. Then hooked up my Messenger 1200. The alternator cost me around $360 and bolted right up and works like a champ. Once you put the 200amp alt in you wont have to worry about starvin pretty much any linear under 1500 watts you decide to run. I just dont talk to much w/o my motor running. Hope i can help you out and second thing is if you live in southern Ala, why aint you here checkin out Spring Break? "Hawk"

PS.....Where ya from in Ala? PSS....Stock alt puts out 90amps!

Thanks for all the GREAT info guy's,

HAWK,I guess i should say central AL, Auburn.(changed it on my profile also) THANKS, I was there last week(PCB) for a night, then went on to Destin, I think i am getting a little old for the HOT-E's on the strip! I really am about 28 (I think)!!

I really don't want to spent the extra $$ on the alt. You told me something about mean-green before & i checked them out on the web. I think you are right, the only place with a big alternator(for the jeep) that will bolt right up. I understand about the amps, i though that would be the case, but though i would ask anyway. Thanks again!!
