From what I've heard from everyone I know who has ever had a 3900.....If you attach a sail on top and styrofoam to the bottom it makes a nice sail boat for that small pond you come across every now and then since it is sooooo good at drifting. I guess you could make a TCXO for it but I'm not sure it would be worth it. It might be a fun project though.

Quote:
It was also suggested to fill the area with variactor with parifin wax to shield it from the air.

I've seen this suggestion (wax, Styrofoam etc.)on quite a few rigs. I've also heard it may cause problems down the road by holding in heat and causing premature failure.

My 3900 has a problem with drifting on SSB The freq. changes with temperature I have to chase all the time. The fine tune is opened.

Anyone know any tricks to fix this maybe a different variactor or a bad cap. ???

Thanks

Jonbah
