I have a President radio that takes 6 pins, but I a few 4 pin mics is like to try out, so I need a mic adapter and I’ve seen two different kinds. I’ve seen one where it’s a barrel style and I’ve seen a pig tail style. Is one better than the other or is it just a preference?

I’ve wondered this myself, but have only used a pigtail that came with a 980ssb (used for the same purpose, adapting 4 pin to President).

I worry the little barrel adaptors could add some leverage to any forces on the mic socket...so I would keep that in mind if you’re mobile.

The pigtails are flexible, but stick out rather awkwardly.

eBay for about $12.
I bought 2, one for my AT 6666 and the SS 9900.

I've used both type adapters. The barrel type always works, and over time, there's less to go wrong with it vs. pig tail, and the only issue I've ever had (FT-100D)with the pig tail was with getting RF into the system and causing weird problems. I snapped a fer-rite core on it which took care of that..:)
