6lq6 and 8950 tube

which would you prefer?
palomar skipper comes with the 8950's how much to retube vs the oher with 6lq6's

Too Much.............. to change that amp to 'LQ6's from 8950's.

The 6LQ6 is a 6 volt tube using a 9 pin socket while, the 8950 is a 12 volt tube using a 12 pin socket. A better idea might be to re-wire the socket to use 6LF6, 6LR6, or 6KD6's; the only change would be to pins 1 and 12.

no not my intent to change it like that..my question was which would be the better amp the one with 8950's or 6lq6 in a 1x3 configuration..
palomar skipper 300 and a thunder bolt which would you buy?

"My Bad", I misunderstood the question; if the Palomar is runing and does not need tubes, go with it because the 8950 tube will last longer and put out more than a 6LQ6/6JE6 family tube.

It will cost you more to re-tube 8950 box; $80.00 per tube versus $40.00 for the 6LQ6's.
