Amp raising SWR reading !

I always operate my station with TWO power/vswr meters..... First one between the transceiver output and the amplifier input, AND the second is between the amplifier output and the antenna input......
Actually my second meter is inline after the amplifier output and before the antenna tuner input......
I operate this way on all the HF bands......
It lets me know if an amplifier issue is cropping up on the input side of the amplifier .... I have found issues this way......before they became big problems.....

It is not affecting the SWR of the antenna system it is a tunning issue with your amp. Builders would call this "reflect" but it is the same as having an antenna system that is not tuned properly.

Usually it is just a matter of tuning capacitence but some designs it is also inductance to a very large degree. There are many ways to tune an amp both oninput and output.

Either way it needs to be dealt with on the input and the output side of things. It could damage the radio and the amp.

  • @ Hambones amps:
Does anyone know if you can replace the 2290 in a galaxy dx 93t twin turbine with a 2sc2879 red dot? If so, what would have to be tuned?
  • @ ShadowDelaware:
Hambones the entire amp section would have to be retuned, and the rf transformers re wrapped.
