i recently read on another website by a poster that claims he works on cbs that out of the box you can put up to a 7 amp fuse in the supply wire to the radio, mine came with a 2 amp fuse, is this true and what would changing this fuse do to the radio?

It would do absolutley nothing to the radio except make it more prone to damage should something go wrong with it. If the radio requires a 2 amp fuse then it is not a good idea to install a 7 amp fuse as it will allow more current to be drawn in the event of a problem. You could install a 40 amp fuse if you wanted too but be prepared to see lots of smoke if anything goes wrong with your radio or installation. As for normal operation all a fuse is is a safety switch in the event of a problem.

An OH SHIT button.

If the radio is an export radio and has been tuned properly it could require a 7 amp fuse but nothing larger. A dual final radio will usually blow a 5 amp fuse after a tuneup. Higher output wattage means higher current draw. A Cobra or Uniden radio should not have a fuse bigger than 4 amps after a tuneup. If it does something is not right.
