I would like to thank everyone taking the time to respond to posts. Your input/knowledge is much appreciated.

I am putting together a base station with expansion plans in mind. Currently running a Uniden Washington, power mic, amp and dipole in the attic.

Future plans are a ham ticket and updated station. With that in mind what omni antenna would be the best all around choice? DX mostly, large city 20 miles away.

It will be going on a mast with the base of the antenna approx. 50ft., no obstructions. Rural area relatively flat (Ohio).

Thanks in advance,

Sounds like your projected station should work. Getting that antenna out of the attic would be a big help though. And also making it vertical instead of horizontal would help too. Dipoles are good antennas but are horizontally polarized unless you hang'em by one end. That alone can reduce what you hear by quite a bit, since most CB radio is vertically polarized.
Have fun.

Yep, start with the dipole on that 50 foot mast and then decide if it meets your needs or not. If you're getting your general ticket soon, you can change out that dipole to cover more bands at that time.

My thoughts were while installing coax and renting a heist (it's good sturdy mast but not gonna climb it) I should install a decent antenna without going all out and setting up beams. Is there an antenna available that would work ok on cb and 2/10 meters?
