using a Pyramid 21kx to run an old Magnum 2000, ssb, 4 levels of power (low, med, hi, max). generally applying 1 to 2w AM, 2 to 6w ssb, and always run it on the medium setting. (3) 40mmX10mm fans are used to keep it cool during qso operation. usually 30 to 50w output, never goes over 100. not worried about numbers and enlisting in the "audio army".

Question: what would be the most reliable new replacement option? this one works great, but nothing lasts forever. considering rocketbox or dave made with ssb and variable. i like staying under 20A draw and running stuff under 50% of it's potential. thanks for any comments, suggestions, or warnings

My old genuine Palomar TX-200 1X4 amp built in Escondido back in 1975 has only ever had one small issue and I've had it in service since 1989, when I bought it used.

Years ago, I rebuilt it with A/B bias, a fan, and a low pass filter and it just keeps on going and going and going and going. I yack for hours on end on SSB on it and it stays so cool the fan doesn't even come on. I can even run it flat out in FM mode at 200 watts working DX on 26.805 and it still doesn't miss a beat. That will make the fan come on though LOL!

this magnum was pulled from one tech's junk pile and a great tech had it working in an hour. nothing but good reports on ssb. haven't even seen one for sale on ebay since getting this 4 months ago.
