Anyone have experience with a TRC-457 ?

Turned out its not the cap...its TP4 that post you test the bias is broken off the board....how would you fix that ?

They are soldered in place from the factory IIRC. If that won't work; then use some epoxy and then solder.

Is that post a ground?

No; it supplies the bias.

Is there anyway to use a jumper? the post is broken.

Understand that this post is put there for one purpose: so that you can connect an ammeter between those two points and adjust the bias to the final or driver.

IMO - the 457 is better than the 458. Not that the main circuit board is any different, but it has two meters on the front and other useful hardware added that the 458 doesn't have. But it is forty years old and recapping it is a must. Once restored it is every bit as good as a Cobra 2000GTL - if not better - IMO.

I don't know about the tx audio.....but the rx is awesome......at first I thought it sounded lousy....but that was because of the tiny speaker.....i plugged a nice speaker into the ext speaker and whoa......beautiful rx audio....that is why i am so bummed no tx.
