Is it possible to work AO51 or any of the birds with a Diamond SRH77CA on a handheld?. I know the arrow antennas are preferred but just curious if anyone has actually talk on amsat with a vertical antenna on a handheld.
Thanks

It is possible....
I have the same antenna.

Watch this video..
How to work amateur radio satellites with your handheld (HT) radio on Vimeo
Moleculo shows an awesome tutorial, on working AO51. He talks briefly, on how to hold your radio, in regards to using a rubber duck.

With the same antenna as you, I have been able to pick up AO51 with almost full quieting, but there were too many people piling up, for me to make a contact.

Best bet...weekdays, on one of the early morning passes (6-7am your time)...

The arrow is a wonderful antenna (I'm torn between buying one, or homebrewing one)..
There are also several tutorials on building your own arrow antenna...

Good luck...

Hello gentlemen and Ladies. I have the dreaded RCI-2990 receive issue where my radio gets distorted when people get close to my location. I found the C90 Capacitor, but I can not for the life of me find the C89 capacitor. Can or does anyone have a picture of the exact location of C89 ? Thank you in advance, Wes
