Guys,

I've run across this radio, would fit a need for low cost marine VHF and FRS/GMRS radio for hunting instead of packing separate VHF and GMRS radios currently. Does anyone have experience with this radio? Is this radio of good quality? Any info is appreciated.

Thank you,

Jacob H.

I think it is an improvement over the UV-5R model. I have one and no real complaints. I'm not that particular about splitting hairs over sound quality and such things if there is anything to nit pick about. I do not like the display as it is a reverse display and hard to see without the backlight on - it is not a defect but just a design feature you might consider. The antenna is usually a slightly better antenna too.

Thank you, I appreciate the info. I have some Midland GTX1000 radios currently, would you say the Boafeng's are better radios? The Midlands I have will easily reach 2-3 miles in open/partially forested, flat farm country.

The GT3 is nothing but the uv-5r in a different package. If you want a Boafeng save money and just buy the Uv-5r or the even better UV-B5. Both will cost you $20+ less then the GT3.

I tought the G3 was a repacked BF-F8+ 2 nd Gen I could be wrong. I just ordered a BF-F8+ for 37.00 & free shipping at Amazon if it falls out of the Tree Stand I'll just bury it where it fell. My Icom didn't fair to well last year and that hurt I still grieve it's loss.

I have one and it works great. 5W output is handy. Some people just don't like the Chinese radios, but you can't beat the price and the performance is acceptable.
I am running 2 UV5R radios with an MFJ duplexer and a chines controller for a repeater inside the house with no problems.
