hello i am new in the forum. I can not hear the frequencies in vfo mode, there is no voice only noise when it stops in a frequency after holding scan button. How can i set up my baofeng without the programing cable? y want to scan the frequencies in vfo mode holding scan button, in some freq the green led is on but i hear only noise and no voice from anyone, can you explain how to use it, i have no contact with a ht until now. Thanks a lot...

Baofeng UV-5r no RX audio when scanning

I just got one of these.
Hit Menu.
Press arrow up or down beside menu to select what parameter you want to set.
#1 is squelch.
Hit menu again to be able to do anything within that selection.
Press the arrow up or down beside the menu button to adjust.
1 for least squelch and 2 and so on for more.
You must set it to at least 1 or the unit will not scan.
Hit menu again for the setting to take.
Check youtube for instruction if you wish.
I strongly suggest a cable as it makes it easy and not expensive at all.
If you do get a cable use CHIRP instead of the software that comes with it as it is much more user freindly.
