I would make sure it has the up-grades that RCI came out with to the power supply side and run the fan kit. Then give it a correct tune and alignment and leave it alone. Don't clip anything or over-tune it, and definitely don't go swapping in a pair of 2879's.
 
does RCI still have the upgrades you are talking about? If not where can i get the info i need? Have no plans of changing or clipping any thing, radio is and has worked great for some time now Thanks
 
I would contact them. RCI had some power supply side issues several years ago. Part of the problem was with RCI, the other was shops would try to crank them way out.

    Hello gentlemen and Ladies. I have the dreaded RCI-2990 receive issue where my radio gets distorted when people get close to my location. I found the C90 Capacitor, but I can not for the life of me find the C89 capacitor. Can or does anyone have a picture of the exact location of C89 ? Thank you in advance, Wes
