big truck electrical issues

The newer trucks at work are more sensitive to medium power radios. Some of the toggle switch lights will go out and occasionally the cruise control will go out. This has happened without keying the mic. I was just monitoring 19 when that happened. Any solutions?

If its happening without keying the mic, sounds like the truck itself has issues. Nothing to do with the radio.

Best to have your power source straight to the battery, and not use factory connections. That goes for low, medium, or high power radios.

Run your own coax and antenna, don't use factory installed. Most factory installs provide signal for am/fm radio, tv's, cb's among other electronics on the truck.

Bond your antenna system to the truck and frame. There are several threads here onthe forum as well as numerous sites on the internet to explain.

These are just a couple things I've run into myself. Hope this helps ya out

The newer trucks definitely have issues. The wiring harnesses are a known issue.

Is the radio rf causing the lights to go out or what? Just curious.

Thanks for responding. In the past we could use our own antennas, coax etc. Not anymore. Our radios and only 4 ft fiber glass antennas and company coax. Might as well use a handheld.
