Browning Golden Eagle Model 68 and D-104 amplified mic

Is there a trick to using a D-104 amplified mic on this radio or is it just not compatable? I changed the setting in the base to R for relay switching and all it does is howl. Looking for a nonamplified D-104 for this radio.

All you need is a G-Stand most likely. They are fairly inexpensive, but most people think the stand is a D104, so the price seems to stay high. I have a mess of them. PM me if you want one.

The straight D104 is prized for its high output when used with a tube-type radio's mike input circuit.

The amplified version is meant partly as a step-down transformer, of sorts. Permits the D104 to work with radios that have a low-impedance input for the mike audio.

Using the amplified mike with a tube radio usually only calls for turning the gain down under the mike.

Turning the Browning's internal mike gain pot fully up or nearly so will tend to work best with an amplified mike.

But only if it's turned down far enough.
