Browning Golden Eagle no OB2 tube.

Picked up another Golden Eagle 2nd one in a month but unlike last one this one seems to be working ok. The only thing is the OB2 tube is missing in the Sams Photofact book this is a voltage regulator tube but radio seems to be working without it my other Eagle has this tube does the radio really need it ?? Alan said that The OB2 is a 100 V regulator for the oscillator. It keeps the oscillator stable so it doesn't drift during power line fluctuations. So I ordered one and will install it when it get here. Thanks Alan

My 100% stock Browning Golden Eagle Mark 2 receiver does not use a OB2 either, it uses a 1N3005 Zener diode regulating the voltage at 108v instead of the voltage regulator tube, if you have this you dont need the ob2 tube. Also, you can pull the 6BE6 tube (V12) as that is only activated for SSB RX through the front mode switch and no one uses SSB below channel 23. This will save around 300ma current pull from the heater off the transformer and will reduce the overall heat a little, I do the same thing for my trams that have ssb receive, pull those tubes. I also replace the 12AT7 (V3) with a 12AX7A and get more receive gain and better receive.

Can the 12AU7 in the transmitter be replaced with a 12AT7 or 12AX7 for more
