Can someone explain why nobody uses upper sideband?

Or if the crystals in the sideband filter have drifted or failed.

Or both?

rci 2980 with a 90 minute frequency warm up time. the inside is mint, but anything could go at any time. instead of an alignment, crystal oven, external 6 digit frequency display, and complete recap, i got a qt80. 2980 still holds it's ground on AM, USB and lsb, for what it is.

I am seriously considering getting a QT80. Seems like everyone is happy with the radio. I would use it in the mobile so I don't have to have a foot warmer attached.

LOL! That's insane. My Anytone 5555N2 is bang on frequency from the moment I turn it on! Is the 90 minutes with or without the crystal oven?

Boggles my mind that people put up with Ranger gear when there are so many better (and cheaper) alternatives out there these days. No offence c316buckeye but now you have a QT-80 that 2980 belongs in the dumpster or at at least in the parts bin.

i like the meters and receive sound of the 2980. not a high value antique, but always wanted one. the 2 k-po dx5000 and the crt 6900v are a joy to operate. made many USB contacts on all of them, bone stock with no amp. 90 minutes is without a crystal oven, @ 63° lol.

now, if i could just find somebody to wire in a galaxy or other mechanical S meter to the qt80 for an external accessory to put on the bench... we can always dream
