Choosing an antenna

Figuring "height is might" I bought an MM4 because it was the tallest they made. But how does one decide what length base to buy and whether a single or double coil? Is it the looks they want or do they actually perform differently?

Get the tallest antenna you can get away with, usually less coils the better. a dual coil would just be there to shorten overall length.
