Somebody once said " If it ain't broken don't $#$@ with it ".

Tried some Joe Gunn made mini 8, the red stuff, and couldn't get it to tune below 1.3 or 2% reflect. Installed my original coax and got the same as before 1/2% reflect 1<img src=http://www.wwdx.org/smilies/posticon1.gif ALT=":1"> . Check continuity before installing. The antenna 10K just wouldn't tune below 1:3 on the 259B.

I was told this was good coax, any body else have any experience with the Joe Gunn red coax, and why does this happen with different coaxs?

Both coax are mini 8. Gotta use the small stuff. Only running 1x2 and 1x4 no volts.

The red stuff does have a excellent braid and stranded center conducter. The Joe Gunn stuff is supposed to accomodate power better, with regards to the mini 8 type.

I know this is an old thread but I too have notice the Joe Gunn coax is terrible as far as SWR is concerned.

I'm assuming it's because I was using the red RG213 Flex with the foam insulator.

Even the red outer coating is way too thin and gets damaged way to easy. Running 250 watts through it makes the coax warm to the touch.

I switched to RG213U with the solid poly insulator.

If I'm reading it right, and that 1.3 is a 1.3:1 SWR, then there's nothing wrong with it, leave it alone. If that SWR figure is really a 3:1, not a 1.3:1, then try tuning the antenna, not the feed line.
