Cobra 139 XLR issues

Replace C179. It's a small blue tantalum capacitor over by the final section of the radio. It's a 2.2 uf 25V capacitor. Replace the tantalum with a same value (2.2 uf 25~50v) electrolytic capacitor. That should fix the problem. Common issue in the old D858 AM/SSB chassis. Let us know how you get on.

They really are solid on sideband, and loud in either mode, SSB or Am. Mine is unmodified, and one of my favorite old rigs to play on. I usually pair it with a KLV tube amp, and make lots of DX contacts. I am told they have a compressor built into the mic circuit, so just about any mic sounds great on them. The Turner really kicks it up a notch! Glad you got yours fixed, like I said, mine had the exact same problem.

73 and good DX,

Hello gentlemen and Ladies. I have the dreaded RCI-2990 receive issue where my radio gets distorted when people get close to my location. I found the C90 Capacitor, but I can not for the life of me find the C89 capacitor. Can or does anyone have a picture of the exact location of C89 ? Thank you in advance, Wes
