I need a cobra 142gtl transmitter section....anyone have one for parts..

DOCTOR/795

what exactly do you mean by "transmitter section"?

there is only one main board in this radio.

what is the problem you are having?

the more specific you are in describing your problem, the better your chances of finding help.

The radio just quit xmiting, although the receive still works.<.it belongs to a friend not my radio.>

I have a feeling it just needs the final replaced..but not sure what the finals are/rf transistors..any ideas and where to obtain..will solder in for him.

DOCTOR/795

first you need to test the driver and the final.

unsolder the legs and lift them from the PC board before testing.

here is how to test them using the diode function of your digital multimeter:
Testing semiconductors with analog and digital multimeters

if either of the transistors fails any of the tests, then you should replace them.

if they pass all the tests, they are probably fine and your problem lies elsewhere.

the driver is a 2SC2166 or a 2SC1306 depending on the age of the radio.
the 2SC2166 should not be too hard to obtain.

the final is a 2SC1969 most likely and these are hard to find and expensive when you do find one.

i have heard of people using a cb20w transistor made by workman as a replacement final with good results, but i have not personally tried one.

dont forget to re-bias the driver and final after replacing either of them.

Hello gentlemen and Ladies. I have the dreaded RCI-2990 receive issue where my radio gets distorted when people get close to my location. I found the C90 Capacitor, but I can not for the life of me find the C89 capacitor. Can or does anyone have a picture of the exact location of C89 ? Thank you in advance, Wes
