The PLL chip in the 29 LTD will not accept input binary codes outside of the 40 channel band plan. Extra ROM has been added inside the chip that locks out all but the normal 40 input combinations. The only way to add channels is to trick the PLL by changing the 10.240 MHz. oscillator crystal. That is what the Expo kit does.

I keep hearing rumors that this person put channels in a 29 by jumping 1 pin on the PLL but I have never seen it done or known of anyone doing it. I always used the expo kits myself. but they are hard to find now, I have 1 A+ kit and 1 A kit left and just hanging on to them for now. oh and a L kit.

The design of the PLL chip used in the 29 LTD insures these were nothing but rumors.

Hello gentlemen and Ladies. I have the dreaded RCI-2990 receive issue where my radio gets distorted when people get close to my location. I found the C90 Capacitor, but I can not for the life of me find the C89 capacitor. Can or does anyone have a picture of the exact location of C89 ? Thank you in advance, Wes
