Cobra 29 LTD WX from 94-95 China?

A friend has an old side mike Cobra 29 LTD WX (not soundtracker) for sale for like $40.. It's June of 94 or 95 MFG date.

Looks good, sounds good..

Thoughts on this year and mfg region?

Hard to find a older basic working 29LTD without WX or ST for under $75-100 online.. trying to keep budget under $50.

I was thinking for my truck with my little RM..

if the radio has ther mic, bracket, and power cord for that it would be about average price for that radio in my area.

They subbed out the Delta tune for the Weather - and if you're not bothered by that nor the side-mic, if not too scratchy on controls - then it looks to be in good shape - but would need to have a re-cap soon - 1994 / 1995 is 23-years behind us.

By far, a better more stable radio - than the ST-configured units which defaulted to KEPC (KOREA Electronic)

You have it at good price - I've seen them go for $60-75 around here for the novelty of side-mic.

A workhorse pickup truck of a radio.

The question of recapping this radio is affected by mileage. A radio with a lot of hours on it may begin to have aches and pains. One shorted electrolytic here, and a failed-open one there.

And if it spent most of its life on the shelf in the proverbial cool, dry place, you could get a year or two, maybe more before the first electrolytic creates trouble.

Too bad there's no odometer on it to record the mileage.

The "old" 29 had a display that would dim with time. Unfortunately I have no baseline .
Then only other odometer on the radio is how many different golden screwdrivers have been in it and that is somewhat subjective.

Was debating on this or an old Uniden 76XL or 66XL. But there are fetching $40-65 or so on eB.. There is a nice 76XLW model for like $40-70.. but if it's the same why bother going Uniden??

Ended up with this Nov 95 China model for $50 flat.. no WX option, but side mic. Thinking it will be fine for my intended setup.
