Here's a handy circuit that I cooked up about 12 years ago for any of you who test alot of mics and coax. www.dtbradio.com/mictest.gif

You'll need to run the mic audio through an external audio monitor, but it works very well. I added an LED modulation monitor to the one I use. Just run the mic audio through a couple transistor amp stages to get it to clip pretty hard, and rectify it through a cap, LED, and resistor.
