Pi-linear not bi-pol
Toshiba 2SC2879
is a high-frequency (HF) and very high-frequency (VHF) NPN bipolar junction power transistor. It was primarily designed for use in radio frequency (RF) linear power amplifier applications, especially in equipment such as amateur (ham) radio transceivers, commercial communication devices, and industrial transmitters.

For this thread the amplifier being referred to is a Texas Star. Most Texas Star amplifiers had the 2sc2290 or 2sc2879 finals in them. Some very old versions of these amplifiers did actually say bi-linear on the front of them. (is that what you meant with Pi-linear?)
In a Texas Star amplifier bi-linear refers to the amplifier's ability to boost not only the transmit signal but also the receive signal. The receive is boosted by the white pre-amp button.
