I have a 102 whip in my garage I've been trying to sell, but with no luck. I'm thinking about keeping it instead and maybe cutting it down to work on 2 meters...what do you think? Also would i better going with a 5/8 wave, 1/2 wave or 1/4 wave?

Thanks in advance.

That will work but hate to see it done. Kind of a waste. Will only work as is as a 1/4 wave. Any other like a 1/2 or 5/8 must utilize a matching coil.

So you would have to use it as a 1/4 wave only on 2 meters which is about 19 1/2".

But 1/4 wave at 2 meters sucks and any 5/8 vertical works substantially better on 2 meters.

Keep the whip and use it on 10 meters later or keep trying to sell it. You'll wish you had it back later sometime.

No, don't cut that whip. Save it, as has already been suggested. You'll be glad you did.

Is this for a mobile antenna?

Rick

You can build a 2 meter ground plane from a coat hanger.

Save the whip for ten meters.

Hey Jeff, this is going on a mobile, perhaps I could just make the vertical part out of the coat hanger and skip the ground plane? or is that also required?

Looks like that link is good for a stationary antenna...?

Is this for a mobile antenna?

Rick

Yes Rick it's for a mobile.

you can easily find a piece of metal 20" long. Go to the local auto salvage yard and tell them what you want it for, the might just give it to you for free. The hadware store ought to have a 1/16" or 3/32" rods of 20" or more as well.
No sense wasting a good 102" length of metal that you could sell on ebay for enough to buy a commercial 5/8" wave 2m/70cm dual bander.

I did not catch it was for mobile, but as Towerdog says, a stick of 3/8 all thread or similar will do the same job.....you just need something that is not going to easily bend.
Even a solid AM/FM car antenna cut down will work.

Hmmmmmm......................... bolt cutters and a dimly lit parking lot come to mind for some reason.

Yep, that's what I thought about myself after I posted it too.

Hello gentlemen and Ladies. I have the dreaded RCI-2990 receive issue where my radio gets distorted when people get close to my location. I found the C90 Capacitor, but I can not for the life of me find the C89 capacitor. Can or does anyone have a picture of the exact location of C89 ? Thank you in advance, Wes
