You can still find very nice old Astatic D104 desk mics, as well as Turner +3's for not a lot of money. Either one of them will sound very good on your 142GTL.

i agree. only d104 i use has the amp bypassed and has a ssb dynamic head on it
sounds pretty good.also checkout a jcd-201 at redmanscb or mfj 299 at bellscb
both have built in compression and mfj has a built in eq.
