dipole looking at mounting on rooftop

Hi everyone. I recently purchased a RCI 2970N2 with the view of utilising the CB band until i complete my local exams so I can later utilise 10 metres etc on this particular radio.

For simplicity and aesthetics (so to speak) I'm looking at using a dipole. The best spot I can think of is directly on the roof top as we are on a 2 story property on a high point. My question is as follows. I have metal roof. Our TV antenna is on a pole so as to get the best signal.

1: Will the metal roof cause interference on SWR or other issues such as conducting?

2: Would setting the dipole below the TV antenna or within the vicinity of it cause RFI. Any suggestions / help or a brand or equipment to set it right first time would be appreciated.

Thanks.

Hard to tell by the pic, but if any of those trees are yours, that's where I'd hang it. Keep it as far away from the TV antenna and the metal roof as you can, as you will probably get a reaction from both.

My question is as follows. I have metal roof. Our TV antenna is on a pole so as to get the best signal. That's probably the WORST place for the dipole.

1: Will the metal roof cause interference on SWR or other issues such as conducting? Yes, without a doubt.

2: Would setting the dipole below the TV antenna or within the vicinity of it cause RFI. Any suggestions / help or a brand or equipment to set it right first time would be appreciated. Your TV is designed to be a receiver of RF signals. In theory, 10M signals are far enough from over-the-air TV signals in frequency that they won't cause interference...UNLESS they are very much stronger than the signals you want to receive.

Thanks.

Anything around an antenna will affect it a little bit. How much it's affected depends on a lot of things, most of which can be compensated for. I would suggest keeping an antenna as far away from stuff as possible, but, if you can't then do what you can and then 'work around it', sort of. It doesn't have to be 'perfect' to do well enough. That interfering or 'affecting' works in both direction, you may get into that TV antenna. Won't really know until you try it.

I did a little research yesterday for dipoles. There are as many configurations that you can think of. most common are horizontal, vertical, and the inverted 'V'. Others were in shapes, used offset legs, on angles, sideways 'V', and set up as a series of dipoles.

They all have their advantages and disadvantages. The vertical puts out a pattern like a donut laying down. The horizontal is slightly directional and varies depending on how how it's mounted vs. the intended wavelength of the freq. used for. The inverted 'V' is almost omnidirectional as well like the vertical, but has a different radiation pattern, and it also varies depending on height. This kind seems most common since it requires less elevation to mount vs. a vertical and less width than a horizontal.

Normally pretty easy to do, but sometimes not so easy to do. Invite friends, buy lots of beer, and try not to break any windows or bones:

I used to think I was mellow till I saw this guy:

Lots of ways to do this, but you'll be happy once you get the thing up in the air. Very stealthy once there, I might add!

Let us know how you make out, you should see some great results.

Hello gentlemen and Ladies. I have the dreaded RCI-2990 receive issue where my radio gets distorted when people get close to my location. I found the C90 Capacitor, but I can not for the life of me find the C89 capacitor. Can or does anyone have a picture of the exact location of C89 ? Thank you in advance, Wes

Wes, it's better if you start a thread on the main forum, more people are going to see your question.
