anyone ever use these ? got an opinion ? i realize it will only show the frequency when txing . i was told older radios can have their freq. stability compromised buy a hard wired unit and that this would be the best option . it would be neat to be able to use it on different radios also .

I have one on my bench that I use just for quick checks before I dig in to a radio. I just discovered that these things can put out a significant amount of RFI. Checking a radio on transmit and then switching over to test the receive I was picking up a lot of static that is uncharacteristic for my test bench. I started testing by switching various thing off and on. When I turned off the FC50S the noise went away. Turned on the noise was back. If you use one turn it off before attempting QSO with distant stations. It will cover up weaker stations. It does come with a wallwart power supply.

Diddos on the RFI.

The SSB version does a really good job of reading SSB. It's only 6 digits but still... It's really hard to use though as it uses momentary switches to produce the 1khz signal. 1 handholds down the switch. 1 hand keys the mic. One hand holds the lil speaker in the mic. 1 hand tunes the radio.

I agree these are ok for a quick check but for the average user. Not really for a bench counter. Like others said they produce RFI. Also they receive RFI.

For the CB bench a good 8 digit AC/DC coupled counter is needed. I like something with a sensitivity atleast 50mVrms at an impedance of 50Ω.
Also note you can connect this type of counter to a "tee" in the transmission line to read frequency just like the inline counter. You can also couple a small antenna to the counter to read "on-air.
