Eagle One

I have no trouble getting out on my CB on AM but I can't make any contact on USB or LSB. This happens with or without my linnear in use. Can any one give me some advise?

Hi and welcome to the board. If you have not already done so, may I suggest that you take some time and read the volume of posts related to amplifiers.

Odd that you are having better luck on AM than SSB. Usually it is the other way around.

Understand this straight away: Atmospheric conditions will have more to do with your having successful contacts than any amount of power. Don't believe me? Tune up on channel 6 or 11 when the band is dead and tell me what you hear. That's right, you hear nothing. Did all the big boys decide to take the day off and go fishing? No. Mother Nature decided that no one was going to DX that day and all the power in the world won't change that.

It matters not how much or how little power you have. All the power does is help you bust through the pile up of stations. On a quiet frequency I've spoken to Europe on a barefoot radio.

As for what amp might be best for you, it would help if we had more information. Base or mobile? What type of antenna? What type of radio? There is no one 'best' amp, it depends on what you want out of it.

Maybe you should take a little time and read up on amplifiers and how they work. That would help you make a better decision.

One last thing: You will see the greatest improvement up to about 500 watts. Past that and you start having diminishing returns.

Good luck
