According to the news this earthquake was as powerful as the one that hit Haiti, amazing difference in the amount of damage/casualties here vs there.
oh and interesting factoid, according to a geologist on the news, the earth sees 7+ magnitude earthquakes about two times per month, just the recent ones Haiti, Chile, this one have been closer to where people live

Felt it in the Coachella Valley for sure! I do think it's sad how the news channels were reporting "how big the waves in Southern California residents' pools were" when residents of Northern Mexico were losing relatives and their personal belongings. American Media for you I guess.
