COBRA 148 GTL CB Radio!!! 40 channel - eBay (item 120594069732 end time Jul-16-10 16:47:39 PDT)

Last year I auctioned one of my 4 NIB/NOS, Made in Philipines, Cobra 148GTLs and the auction didn't hit my reserve of $150. I even gave the buyers a money back guarantee that the radio was unused and in perfect shape....I even offered that if unsatisfied I would pay shipping back to me. 94 feedbacks, all positive. From my experiences the malaysian 148s are the best followed by the philipines....taiwan the worst.
High bid was $138.
Look at what this auction is up to????????? I can't understand this!

When it comes to discontinued electronics on eBay, the prices things sell at in no way reflects the value of the equipment. It's simply an indication of how desperately someone wants something that's right in front of them. I've seen many people lose all sense of value and get into that "I just gotta have it" mode. As time goes on these things just seem to go up in price. I can't tell you how many customers back in the 1980's were just donating older equipment to me rather then have it repaired. Many Johnson transmitters and National receivers were given to me for free just needing a little work. You know what they sell for on eBay now?

A friend of mine in NC has a mint Johnson Desk that belonged to his father, his wife told him her or the desk.....he still has the desk!!!!!

Awful doggone big

are you referring to the wife or the amp?

as for the ebay thing, i have noticed that its all about the description.

there are certain buzz words the people want to hear, and sad as it is to say; many people think that a stock CB, even a NIB philly 148, just aint worth much.

if you had said things in your ad, like "this radio is LOUD!!!" or "this thing really gets out!" you might have gotten higher bids.

i know, its stupid as all get out, but thats ebay.
heck, how do you think SNAKERADIOSINC gets away with it. LOL

As far as the wife or the desk goes.....he still has both, although the desk has been way less problematic!

You are right. I bought a performance chip for an F150 a few years ago and it was advertised as 60 hp gain minimum. What they didn't say was this HP gain is only noticeable at 4000 rpms or higher. What the hell good is it for towing and riding in traffic. Needless to say it was a waste of $225.
If anyone wants a NOS Malaysian or Phillipine pre 1997 148 I will let them all go for $275 each! I have 4 phillipino and 3 Malaysian radios left. I also have 2 NOS Taiwanese 148s no one seems to want that don't work and I suspect dried out caps which they are infamous for.
