Emperor?

Another driver I know showed me an Emperor he has, that he has not used because he does not have a mic for it and basically little knowledge on it, he said he would sell it and make him an offer. Would this be worth investing in or not? What might it be worth? Any info appreciated

I believe that the Emperor is very similar in construction and performance to the Lincoln or HR2510. I could be wrong , so someone correct me if I am. How old is it? How do you want to operate (AM, SSB, etc.)? If you like to sideband or operate outside of the regular 40 chs, it should be a good radio. Especially if you can get a good deal on it. I would rather get one without a microphone and add a good quality noise cancelling one ( RK56, Astatic 636, etc.). I would get it hooked up, preferably on a bench to make sure all was ok then listen to it and get reports on air as to the quality of audio. The radio is in the 150 to 250 range depending on condition, in my opinion. You need to let your desire for the radio from go there.

Hoosier Camel Jockey, thanks for the reply, and I do definatly want to talk SSB! I was thinking of purchasing the Lincoln but if this is a good deal I will jump on it and have it on a bench first.

If it's the 5010 then I'd go for it. If it's the 3010 then I wouldn't bother.

The Emperor 5010 is a "take off" of the HR2510. Not quite the same build quality but a good radio. I believe the ALAN 9001(Midland) is also a "close cousin" and are selling new for $250

The Emperor radio's are made bij President. And the are great radio's one guy here uses an 3010 (they are sold as emperor shogun over here) it's an great radio but he has to use an lowpass filter when he transmit becouse the neibourse can't watch TV when he is transmitting. I dont no if the 5010 is better on that case.

I had an Emporer for about 6 years and LOVED it. I traded it for a Cobra 2000. As far as my 2510, it'll take a lot to get that out of my hands.

Rogerbird, You might want to check for one on ebay. I have seen them pop up every now and then. Even one that was DOA. Just a suggestion.
