I RECENTLY BOUGHT A CB RADIO AND I AM GETTING ANNIOYING ENGINE AND WIPER NOISE IN THE BACKGROUND. I AM SURE IT IS NOT THE POWER SUPPLY AND I THINK IT IS THE ALTERNATOR. WHAT CAN I DO TO FIX IT, WHERE CAN I BUY IT, HOW MUCH WILL IT COST? IF I RUN THE POWER STRAIGHT FROM THE FUSE BOX WOULD THAT HELP?

RFJUNKIE,

I should know this but I don`t. How do you install a capacitor to the battery ground?

RF i went to the local r/s & they do not have any. but they did say to try a automotive store. from the size of the 4700's i have seen these 33000 must be almost as big as a beer can lol

Thanks Doc. the biggest R/S had was 4700 so I'll first try some of the other outlets. Then the electronics store. I can always return it if it won't work.

Well, I couldn't find a 33,000 uf, 25 v capacitor, but I did find 37,000 uf, 40 v. Think that'll work?

I found it at a place called C&H Surplus in Pasadena, CA. They have a bazillion different Caps. Of course they have none of the 25 volt 33,000 uf ones, though. This one is pretty big...About as tall as a normal beer can, and about as wide as a Foster's beer can. I'll probably use it until I find a suitable one with smaller voltage. If you have trouble finding what you want, I can always go over there and pick one of these up and send it. It would be nice if someone knew of an online electronics site that carried them and also would let you order just one or two.

I hooked up that cap yesterday, and it didn't make a bit of difference. I still have that annoying alternator whine. I have the neg going from battery to ring terminal attached to neg terminal on cap, which goes to neg on radio. Same thing on the pos side. I also have a wire attached to the radio case grounded to a post as rf ground. Any further suggestions? Maybe I did something wrong? Or maybe there's another way to get rid of this whine?
