turn it on and the volume is immediately loud and crackling. it's so loud at no volume I just turn it off, it's too loud to even just listen.
any thoughts?

nice. I was hoping for something easy like that. swapped it out today after 2 weeks without a radio. probably look at it monday.
hope I can find the parts at the local shop.

Ptobably not. But first, you have to make sure that is the problem. The parts for this chassis are available from RF Parts - for starters . . .

I gave it a quick test with the multi and as soon as it turns on there's no resistance through the whole volume range.
now I just have to get it out of there, and figure out another 13$ purchase to meet the minimum 20$ order.

Before you spend the $$$ on a new pot, disconnect the pot and determine if the short is in the pot or the board. Hard to imagine how a carbon-based pot would short out.

unwired the switch, and as soon as you click it on, no resistance through the whole volume range.
it was a pain trying to rack up $20 at rf parts so I ordered off ebay for 12.95 total. seller is in alabama.

Hello gentlemen and Ladies. I have the dreaded RCI-2990 receive issue where my radio gets distorted when people get close to my location. I found the C90 Capacitor, but I can not for the life of me find the C89 capacitor. Can or does anyone have a picture of the exact location of C89 ? Thank you in advance, Wes
