Any one have any experience or opinions about the Everhardt Tiger base loaded whips? 6 in wound fiberglass base and a 4 ft steel whip.... for $22 it seems interesting....

Better ask over on cbrt, those guys seem to love everhardt antennas. I would think having the base coil wound that tight would be fairly inefficient. Reminds me of the cheap steel whip antennas they sell at radio shack. I'm sure it will work, but I doubt it would be that impressive.

Inefficiency would come from using very small wire. Helically winding the loading coil is not a big deal. I just wonder what the antenna is really tuned as as it is 1/4 wavelength long to begin with so why the loading? Unless it is not the antenna I am thinking of. I hom brewed an antenna for 15m and used a 4 1/2 foot long fiberglass rod wound with old coaxial braid and covered with heatshrink tubing. It has a 5 foot whip on top. It must be quite efficient as it works fantastic on 15m and on other bands above 14.0 MHz with an auto-tuner. The large heavy braid contributed to the efficiency I am sure.

I have used them, and know a couple of guys that use them.
They work good for what they are, just a simple base loaded antenna.
And yes you can get the same style antenna from R/S and ProComm markets the same antenna as a "half breed" antenna.
As always, the longer the better.
I think even Astatic had the same style of antenna for a while.
