I have a 2x4 mobile fatboy with the variable power knob on the front is there any way to bypass that variable power and if so wouldnt that make it just full power when its on ?

the simplest way is to just turn the knob and leave it there... lol

Or you could just take the knob out, turn it to full power and tape it up and thrown it inside the amp.

But you should be able to turn the pot to the right, remove the pot and measure the resistance, of the pot in the high power position, then get a resistor that is the same resistance and solder it it, or it may not even have resistance in the full power position, in this case just unsolder the pot and solder the wires together.

But the REAL question is WHY do you need this done?

The reason for doing this is because the pot has come apart and way out in the boon docks a cb shop or a radio shack arent on every corner. Lol plus who uses a variable power anyways ?

In that case just give Fatboy a call, they should be able to send you a replacement. There should only be two wires to solder and unsolder.

That or check the part number of the pot and order one on line or from Rat Shack.

What about the wattage rating for such a resistor? most of those variable pots are 25 watt rated and a resistor of that value may cost a pretty penny.

I suggest he follow the directions of my prior post.

LOL, I was going to comment on that but I felt it was just another "i'm better then you-all" ham radio op with an ax to burn.

I thought the Texas Star VR control was a 2.5 watt device. The Fatboys are 25? Dang. No wonder that Swedishimpi dork on E-Bay tells everyone you can dead key 10 watts into them.

25 watt variable and 2 or 5 watt resistors used in that circuit.
