Hello All
Im after your input and suggestions.. I had a HF set after I passed my licence in 2004 a Kenwood TS430 and kept it a year or so then lost interest I kept all my 2m 70cms and dual bander and also kept my triple band w2000 up and occasionally used then. Iv recently got one of the Beofeng £30 duel band handie and have got right back into radio. Iv been using the repeaters and logging into echolink onto the Irish conference and made friends from all over namely two I talk to the most One in Florida and one in Sdney gear Right to the info im in need of
Iv been putting some money aside over the last couple years from this and that so its not missed and am now in a position to get a decent HF Hence your input.
Firstly = What radio would you choose or suggest and why
My only stipulation is id like at least 6m on the radio and possibly even go as far as having it with 2m and 70cms if the pros out weight the cons. But that said if it was a base only that you suggest then I would only want it to have the 6m. Thus bringing me to the second question.
Secondly + Base, Dual use or Mobile only?
Funds say up to £1000 but obviously I dont want to compromise on cost but if possible the better radio if cheaper I dont just want to go for a grand radio because of price if you know what I mean.. I have looked at the FT-857 , Ft-897 IC-746 and the IC-7000(B stock from W&S)..to give you a idea as to what iv been looking at .
Also the TS2000 looks very nice but outside my budget at the moment and I think possibly to much to la out on a radio.. That said if many suggest under the circumstances that I add to the fund and get TS2000 for instance Then I would wait till I could afford one at the increased price..
Then after the radio is sorted Id then like input on antennas Mobile or base depending on which radio I end up with.. The base being limited as I already have the Watson up so the HF would need to be less conspicuous so would guess I could only go the long wire route If that helps .
Once again the mobile aerial is up for any suggestions. For instance either single or multi band type antennas also either normal or active and finaly fixed or quick mount (mag-mount type)
So theres quite a bit to get your teeth into and leave me some feed back I hope
Im open to anything provided its the right radio annd im prepared to spend up to around £900
Many thanks every one regards
