FT990 muting during HamRadioDeluxe frequency actions

Has anyone used the CAT feature of the FT990? Specifically using Ham Radio Deluxe as the control console? When frequencies are stepped, the radio momentarily mutes/blanks. This appears to be a normal effect while under CAT control.

I'm looking for a modification to the radio that will eliminate this blanking effect? This blanking does not happen if the frequency is stepped or scanned while using the UP/DOWN buttons on the microphone so it seems it may be a possible mod. (Possibly interrupting the mute line common with the squelch in the audio path?)

Any info will be appreciated.

Thank you

If it is like the FT-857D/817/897, you can get better audio through the data jack on the back of the rig, on the 857 you use 1200bps out and ground to get audio out. If you have a soundcard interface for digi modes you could use that, and I also think there was a CAT mod using the mic jack but have no idea where I saw it anymore

Thanks, I'll look into that however, I don't believe audio is available via the CAT jack on the rear of the radio. I'm getting the blanking at the FT990 speaker.

So I would likely have to amplify that signal to drive a speaker.... Could be 'do-able' just have to check it out some. Thank you for the clues.
