Equipment is a lot more dear in price over there. That's why a lot of used US amateur gear gets snapped up on ebay at what we see as too high a price by UK/EU/AU buyers.

Look at the new pricing in the UK vs US prices from amateur dealers, or AU for that matter...very high compared to here.
