I heard a quite lengthy QSO between a guy in California and the other guy in New York the other day, I am in Texas. Anyhow the guy in New York went by 063 and his radio sounded really good. It sounded just as good as a guy's RCI 2970 I had talked to earlier. He said he was talking on a Galaxy 959 with a D 104. Now after hearing his radio it got me thinking about getting one as I have always liked the style and features of it. But I thought they drifted too much from what I read. The guy with the 959 never drifted a bit.
If I were to buy one and have the viagra board installed would I be able to get to the "zeros?" Thinking about getting it from custom cb radios.com.
What are your thoughts on the radio and have you used or heard one before that didn't drift?

Doug is a great tech, he is very anal about every radio he works on. He is also probably the best with a Galaxy 959. Once the radio warms up it won't drift much, if you run it as a base even better. If you run it mobile in a winter weather part of the country then yes, it will drift like a sail boat.

Galaxy radios are usually okay inside. In a vehicle they tend to drift and with SSB its a pain in the butt. That being said the 959 and 979 both can sound really good on SSB with a good tune and nice microphone.

the guy with the galaxy probly had the clarifier unlocked so he could keep it on frequency with the guys he was talking to, probly why you didn't notice it drift

Thanks for the answers, I guess I'll pass on the 959 for now. Maybe if I find one for a good price I'll try it out. Kinda looking to go a different direction now and may save my money for a Alinco sr 8t
For now I have a solid ssb radio with my Uniden 980, just wish it could be modified for the extra channels. It is very stable on sideband and I really enjoy that about it. My Magnum S45hp does a fine job as well. I think it has been too long since my last radio purchase and was looking for something new.

I go by 553 usually in TX, OK or LA.
