Did the early 98's ever come from the factory with 2879's or were they all mosfets? I am looking at purchasing a 98 with 2879's.

They had mosfets from the beginning, the ones you see with pills are modified to that.
It's not that big of a job to swap those amplifier sections as it is finding the pill section with real toshibas. It'll take some coin on top of the labor. If I'm not mistaken, @NightThumper had talked about that swap on the same radio but I could be dreaming that all up.
