sounds like oscillation.
i am wondering if someone cranked the bias pots on the driver and final.
try setting the bias on the driver and finals using these instructions: http://www.cbtricks.com/radios/galaxy/dx99v/dx99v_trans_adj.htm
when they say to remove the "metering jumper" they are referring to the little PC board sitting vertically in front of the driver and finals.
just a guess.

loosecannon affirmative. After heat and beat that was exactly what needed to be adjusted.
I found my first post! I ended up sending the 99v to @OldTech03 and did an awesome job with it. I will see if I can find the thread and post it here.

Bump, just found this again. Here is the thread where OT03 fixed it up for me. It resides as the main radio on the back work bench now, helping me with microphone and amplifier tests.

Galaxy DX99V back in service
This is Unit# 46 repaired in the last 6 weeks while working another full-time job!! Wow for me. Anyway, this is one that was done for a WWDX member which I will not mention. the image below shows the Restored top cover.
I have one. I paid 50 dollars for it! My only issue is having to switch the mic gain back and forth between am and SSB.
