What do you guys think of the Galaxy DX-2547 base, I was thinking of purchasing one but would like a little feedback first from you pros.
I read somewhere it can be moded very easily. 8)

I had one.I loved it! Best "CB" base since the 2000GTL.
A friend of mine just had to have it so it went home w/him. I
do miss it tho. I'd like to have another, but since I got my
amatuer ticket,I'd rather invest in some other gear now.
I really don't believe you'll be dissapointed in this rig.
Mods are all over the net, particularly at cbtricks.com.

I also like mine very much.
It is an excellent 40 channel SSB base radio, in the tradition of the 2000. It has great audio and great receive.

We have 3 local operators (including me) that use them, and they sound better than most (expensive) amateur radios that some others use.

Easy to modify for channels if you want and easy to unlock the clarifier. A real good radio.

I've said it before...the best "CB" base station ever made. If you want more, then you don't want a "CB"

Galaxy DX2547

In my humble opinion, I highly recommend one. I bought one
used at a local flea market about three months ago and the
ONLY problems I've had is the light went out behind the
meter.
The frequency counter is pretty accurate and stable. AM
and sideband is comperable to my old Cobra2K. The three
filters will cut most of the QRM.
If another was available at a decent price, i'd jump on it!

That was a major problem w/mine too.I had to stick a new bulb in that thing every few months.I even turned it down so as not to burn too hot!! I bought some 12VDC LED's and was gonna put that in but my friend bought the radio first.I never did get it back from him to install it yet.Been 4 years now!
Other than that I loved it!

good radio yes .but for a extra 100 dollars ya could buy a 2980wx with
all the extras already in it.but still a decent radio just a little overpriced
in my opion

Yeah the DX 2547 isn't really worth that much, it's more of a poor mans basic radio.. Not really made for high performance.. A 10 meter galaxy radio (or Ranger) would kill it in power and features.

the Galaxy DX-2547 base is a great looking radio.

I would have bought one BUT...

1. not much power output, have to buy a amplifier

2. really overpriced, for 4 watts?

If I was to buy one, it would have to be peaked and tuned.

Galaxy 2547

Have had one an stock its was OK, Did a lot of mods to the one I had. Viagra Board, Slider, Receive mod, It all worked as it should but had to increase the slide on the Clarifier so I had the enough range on the nob from hot to cold. It sounded good on the air on both AM & SSB..................walterb

There is no reason to buy an actual CB if you want lots of power and full coverage of the freeband with lots of slide.

If you want a good CB Base station that can be easily peaked and a fair amount of extra channels added (but not all), then the DX-2547 is about as good as it gets. I agree it is a bit overpriced (I was seeing them for $259), but not by much.
