I just did a host of mods on a 2547. It was a botch job and needed to be repaired and straightened out. It had two toggle switches mounted through two speaker holes. I don't like that and built a harness for the two switches, so the top cover can be removed for servicing. Just throwing that out there for ideas. No, the 3 pos 9/norm/19 switch cannot be used.

The extra channel mod for the 2547 is deceptively simple. Cut two wires, insert a switch in the cut of each wire.

Does require routine precautions, like disconnecting EVERYTHING from the radio before poking a soldering iron into it.

The built-in counter makes the simple two-switch mod useable. Frequencies will jump around out of sequence, but having a frequency display mostly makes up for it.

And a DDS is a world beyond the two-switch mode. Both in the cost and in the result it offers.

LOL Good thing I don't live near KY, I'd keep you busy. LOL I have too much invested in buying my 2547 new for me to experiment with no training.

Thanks for the thoughts, maybe I'll call the two places tomorrow. I've seen R&Rs website before but never herd much about them. Did you ever deal with their work before ?

Viagra 120 Channel Mod PCB

These work great. I bought a few when RF Parts still had them in 2008 or so, I put a Viagra A "Blue Dot" board in my PC-122. Yes, it works there, too.
"Blue Dot" has 40 up, 40 down, I have a "Green Dot", and a "Red Dot", one goes up 40/80 and the other goes down 40/80. I have a few "Blue Dot" boards, 1 "Red Dot" and 1 "Green Dot".

I also have a Viagra B board, that uses an MC145106DM (SMT) PLL to do the mixing.

I bought them for samples when I was going to start working on radios again, until one of the local riff-raffs got into a war with me and my friends, so I shut the whole radio repair service idea back down.

Hard to believe you could put a board in a PC-122 ! I bought one of those NOS from eBay a few months back and have been trying it my car because it is suppose to be stable. I like the little radio and it did look like NOS but wish I could add a external dead key knob. It receives really well but the audio quality on sideband I think could be better. No problem understanding someone but not as dynamic and clear as some of my other radios. After testing my new McKinley on the bench this weekend I'll probably put that in my car and the PC-122 will go on my bench for observation. How is the audio quality on your PC-122 ?

I haven't had it hooked up in over 15 years, so I really don't remember. I also was experimenting on it for MOSFET, but have sidelined it having moved twice since then. I mounted the Galaxy Viagra A Blue Dot board on the side behind the mic socket. I mounted the U channel heatsink external to the case, for better air flow.

I pulled it out of my storage unit, haven't cleaned it up.

Thanks for the quick reply. Was just wondering if the audio quality is just the nature of the beast. All I ever heard was good about the PC-122 but most of that was about being stable.

I haven't played with my 2547 for some time, but I think I remember putting the "A" channels or 10k on the 9/19 switch.

Thanks for sharing the video, but the procedure to get to the extra channels would be too complicated for me.

I agree with you because the video wasn't step by step and stuff was left out for a green horn like me. I know just enough to be dangerous. LOL

That's what happens when someone buys a radio that the previous owner "customized" for their personal likes. Without a step-by-step road map on how to operate the radio, it can be a PITA.
My friend bought a used 2547 that has three toggle switches and a dim pilot light in the back to indicate when the amp is on or off. One toggle switch was for a blue-tooth connection but was disconnected. The previous owner finally contacted my friend to tell him what the third toggle switch was for.

Your friend was lucky that guy got a hold of him, a lot of people wouldn't. I'll go in a radio and adjust the dead key for use with a amp and adjust the AMC & ALC but that is where I Stop because of no electronic training. Wish I would have had some training but I'm smart enough to know I'm a mechanical man and fabricator. LOL
