Galaxy DX-959

I bought a galaxy 979 for the jeep, it was 141 dollars for the whole thing. It has the blue led and it was made in Malaysia. The microphone was defective out of the box, but I had a power mike for it.

Ssb is off by 320hz out of the box :D when I have time I will align it.

It's a good am radio but SSB not as good though. Definitely a solid choice for AM and for playing around with SSB.

The limiter on SSB seems a little aggressive it will just cut your modulation right out if your over, definitely does seem to do proper SSB compression/limiting.

Maybe it's a defect, not sure is it normal for them to just cut your audio on the SSB side if your a little hot on the audio?

SSB is off 320hz??? Well, give it time. You can only talk on the 979 and 959 when it's at the same temp where it was aligned. Or.... Open the clarifier. Two snips and 8v source and voila. Just tune others in and presto, you're talking on their frequency. Hopefully you tune it the dune that's in frequency or you'll be off.

Seriously though, those radios sound very good when they're on frequency, and you're not using a stock mic. I probably align 10 2547/959/979 radios per week and open the clarifier. I've never had a bad report. However, if you dont open that clarifier, you're at the mercy of the weather and in Nebraska, your car may be 2 degrees or 102 degrease.
