radio was recently fixed. stopped transmitting. now i only get 3w dk, 8 w pep on low and 4w dk, 8w pep on hi power. SSB swings to about 10w pep. found out TR43, TR44, TR56 are all 2sc2166. Would that be causing the low power? I think the original is that TR43 & TR56 was suppose to be 2SC2312. trying to fix the power close to original, but i don't want to get a couple of 2312 with the prices they have now days. I wanted to try to replace the 2166 with 2078. i don't know if that will help. please help!

TR43 and TR56 need to be 2SC2312. That was the original equipment. 2SC2166 is the driver transistor (TR44). 2166s won't work very well as finals in this radio (as you already have found out). Need to bite the bullet and get a couple of 2312s.

is there an alternatives for the 2312's? or is there something else i could buy to be less pricey than buying a couple of 2312's.

i did a little experiementing yesterday on this radio. i replaced the 2166 with the 2078 and left the driver 2166. WOW! It made a big difference. Now I get a 2w d.k on low and swings to 25w. Then on hi, d.k 10w and swings 30wpep. I'm gonna leave it at that and try it out today. Modulation is about 105 %.
